How Detection Works

Understand Klarvo AI Transparency's detection registry, 20 categories, detection methods, and what 'detected' means for compliance.

The registry

Klarvo AI Transparency uses a built-in registry of 1,800+ AI-powered tools. Each entry includes:

  • Tool name and vendor
  • WordPress plugin slug (for plugin-based detection)
  • JavaScript signatures (for SaaS/embed-based detection)
  • Category (one of 12)
  • EU AI Act classification
  • Relevant articles
  • 12 detection categories

  • Interaction (45+ tools) — Chatbots, live chat, virtual assistants. Examples: Tidio, Intercom, Drift, Zendesk Chat.
  • Analytics (20+) — Visitor behaviour analysis, heatmaps, session replay. Examples: Google Analytics (GA4), Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity.
  • Personalisation (20+) — Content personalisation, A/B testing, recommendations. Examples: Optimizely, Dynamic Yield, VWO.
  • Media (19+) — Image/audio/video processing and generation. Examples: ShortPixel, Imagify, ElevenLabs.
  • Search (17+) — AI-powered site search. Examples: Algolia, Jetpack Search, Coveo.
  • Security (17+) — Bot detection, CAPTCHA, threat intelligence. Examples: Wordfence, Cloudflare Bot Management, reCAPTCHA.
  • Accessibility (16+) — AI accessibility overlays and tools. Examples: accessiBe, UserWay, AudioEye.
  • Content (15+) — AI content generation and editing. Examples: AI Engine, Elementor AI, Divi AI.
  • Commerce (14+) — Product recommendations, dynamic pricing, merchandising. Examples: Nosto, Clerk.io, Yotpo.
  • Email (13+) — AI-powered email marketing and automation. Examples: Mailchimp, HubSpot, Klaviyo.
  • Translation (10+) — Automated translation. Examples: TranslatePress, WPML, Weglot.
  • SEO (9+) — AI-powered SEO analysis and optimisation. Examples: Rank Math, Yoast SEO.
  • Detection methods

  • Plugin-based: Compares your active WordPress plugin slugs against the registry. This is how standalone mode works.
  • JavaScript-based: In connected mode, the widget script (w.js) also scans for known JavaScript signatures of SaaS tools loaded on the page (e.g., Intercom's widget, Drift's embed code).
  • What "detected" means

Detection means a known AI-powered tool is active. It does NOT mean the tool is non-compliant. The badge simply discloses its presence — which is what Article 50 requires.

    Registry updates

The registry is updated with each plugin release. New tools are added based on EU AI Act relevance, market presence, and community requests.
