What is the EU AI Act?

The EU AI Act (Regulation 2024/1689) is the world's first comprehensive AI regulation. It classifies AI systems by risk level and imposes obligations on providers and deployers of AI systems operating in the EU.

Any organisation that provides or deploys AI systems affecting people in the EU — regardless of where the organisation is based. This includes websites with AI chatbots, companies using AI analytics, and businesses integrating AI models into their products.

Prohibited AI practices have been enforceable since February 2025. GPAI model obligations since August 2025. Article 50 transparency and most remaining obligations apply from August 2, 2026.

What are the penalties?

Up to €35 million or 7% of global turnover for prohibited practices. Up to €15 million or 3% for transparency and other violations. For SMEs, the penalty is whichever amount is lower.

What is Klarvo AI Transparency?

Klarvo AI Transparency is a free WordPress plugin that detects AI-powered tools on your website and displays a transparency badge. This helps you meet Article 50 transparency obligations under the EU AI Act, which become enforceable on August 2, 2026.

Installation

Download the plugin from WordPress.org (search "Klarvo AI Transparency" or "Klarvo") or from klarvo.io/ai-notice-widget

In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin

Upload the zip file, click Install Now, then Activate

The plugin starts working immediately. No configuration needed.

What happens on activation

The plugin scans your active WordPress plugins against a registry of 1,800+ known AI-powered tools across 20 categories. If any AI tools are detected, a compliance badge automatically appears on your website's frontend.

Two modes

Klarvo AI Transparency works in two modes:

Standalone (default): Zero external requests, zero cookies, fully GDPR-safe. The badge is generated entirely from local data. No account needed.

Connected: Link to a Klarvo account for analytics, custom branding, multi-site management, and one-click import into your AI inventory.

Most sites should start with standalone mode. You can connect to Klarvo later without losing anything.
